Karen Martin

Special Education Faculty

Karen Martin joined Thetford Academy as a special educator in 2004 after 14 years at Thetford Elementary School. Karen has a BA in liberal arts and elementary education from Johnson State College, and earned her special education license, grades 7 to age 21, from Vermont Higher Education Collaborative. She also holds a social thinking clinician B1 certification.

As an educator, Karen appreciates seeing “students grow and mature as they move through the grades” and watching them “invest in their learning, and develop and use strategies to support their learning.”

Outside of Thetford Academy, Karen loves to spend time with her family and her 11 grandchildren. Living in Thetford, she enjoys the natural world outside her door, “all the birds that visit my bird feeders and the rascally squirrels, the deer and other woodland animals that call our little patch of woods home.”

“Consider that the mind is capable of an endless growth.”—Asa Burton, one of the founders, urging citizens of Thetford to establish TA in 1819
