Outdoor Leadership

Experiential | Outdoor Education
Grade: 7-8
Credits: Elective Rotation

This class will focus on helping middle school students to develop and practice leadership and teamwork
skills while also learning outdoor skills. Students will practice basic outdoor skills, such as reading maps, navigating with a compass, building shelters and fires, outdoor cooking, tying knots, knife safety, and basic first aid, trail maintenance and improvement and risk management. In addition to the hands-on component of class, students will also read excerpts from relevant books. Throughout the class the themes of positive group interactions, respect, inclusiveness, preparedness and informed, thoughtful decision making would be identified, emphasized and practiced.
