Are viruses alive? If human mass is mostly bacterial cells, who is running the show? If the mushroom that is seen on the forest floor is not a fungus organism, then what is? And what kind of animal can be placed outside of a rocket capsule into space for days at a time, yet remain happy, healthy, and capable of reproduction? This introductory course will provide students with answers to these and other questions that relate modern biology to an ever-changing world. Students will learn about the areas of ecology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, evolution, and classification. Students will work on a variety of labs and hands-on field explorations designed to further understanding of the scientific method of problem solving.
