This course emphasizes skill development in reading, writing, speaking, and listening—all essential tools for communication. Students do this as they study a variety of both fiction and non-fiction literature, including novels, short stories, plays, poetry, and personal essays. Over the course of the year, students engage in reading and writing workshops, several interdisciplinary units, and plenty of grammar and vocabulary work. The final exam will be the creation of a bound portfolio of the “best” work from middle school.
