Cooking for Health focuses on both cooking skills and a healthy diet. Food selection and planning a healthy diet will be stressed. Students will plan and prepare meals with a variety of food groups using the My Plate Food Guide. In addition, students will study aspects of the USDA Food Nutrition Label to deduce and compare the health quality of food items. Cooking labs provide an opportunity to try nutrient-rich foods with complementing flavors to make healthy and delicious meals. Empowering students to cook opens the world of food possibilities. Gaining confidence in the kitchen will benefit personal health throughout life. Meals made from scratch with real ingredients are more nutritious.
