This course is designed to provide an active and rewarding experience as students continue to strengthen language competency and cultural awareness. Students interpret and respond to a broad selection of contemporary and classic literature and film. Complements to selected texts include magazine and newspaper selections, short stories, plays, auditory programs, internet activities, podcasts, YouTube videos, and musical selections.
Topics of this course may include, but are not limited to, immigration, the natural world in literature, current and historic events, influential figures, themes of identity, power and justice in the Americas, media, poetry, art, and music of the Hispanic world. The syllabus will be different for each term of Spanish IV and V. Students will make a commitment to speak only Spanish at this level.
Prerequisite: Completion of Spanish III or IV with a grade of B or better or permission of the instructor.
