Head of School Weekly Email: January Calendar Changes & Winter Athletics Update

Dear TA Families,

Please note the following important program updates for the remaining weeks of Fall Semester:

1. January Calendar Changes

We are extending the fall semester (and specifically the 2nd quarter) by one week. Please visit the TA Today page on the school website to review the online school calendar for all updates. Key changes include:

  • Final projects & exams week will now take place January 19-22, following the MLK Holiday.
  • The semester break vacation day shifts from Friday, January 15 to Monday, January 25.
  • Second semester will begin on Tuesday, January 26.

2. Winter Athletics Update

Absent clear guidance or timelines still from the VT departments of health and education regarding winter athletics, we are moving ahead with the following plan for the TA community. We have made the decision to suspend participation in the winter athletics season for indoor sports through at least the end of our fall semester (Jan. 22). This was not an easy decision; I recognize the news will be deeply disappointing to some and a relief to others. We are working on safe alternative intramural outdoor and fitness options for students to participate in after school. Information about the launch of the cross-country ski club will be shared at next week’s assembly and more activities to come.

I want to extend another invitation to parents and guardians to participate in the focus groups I will be convening on January 15, 18, and 21. There are still a few spots available, especially for the Jan. 21 evening session. To RSVP, please submit the online form sent to parents via email on Dec. 4 and Dec. 11.

Thank you,

Carrie Brennan, Head of School
