Welcome New Students and Families: Letter from the Head of School

July 3, 2019

Dear New Students and Families,

Welcome to Thetford Academy! We are delighted that you will be joining the TA community for the 2019-20 school year.

The Thetford Academy mission is to “celebrate the worth of all students, nurture their strengths, and challenge them to fulfill their potential.” There is a rich catalogue of course offerings, as well as dozens of athletic teams, arts options, clubs, and outdoor education opportunities. We take care to ensure that all of our students find their place at TA – and know that you will find yours this year.

This letter provides a brief update on what’s ahead for 2019-20. You will also receive a registration packet in August with more detailed information.

SAVE THE DATES

The first day of school is Tuesday, Aug. 27. The first day will be a regular schedule, with a start time of 8:10 a.m. and dismissal at 2:55 p.m.

New student orientation tours take place Sunday, Aug. 25 at 5:30 p.m. Led by student ambassadors and school staff, the tours will help you become more familiar with the campus and find the locations for your classes.

The Back-to-School Summer Picnic is Sunday, Aug. 25 at 6:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Thetford Academy Parents Association (TAPA), this event is a great way for new students and families to meet returning students and families.

New student retreat takes place on Wednesday, August 21. For incoming high schoolers, this is an overnight retreat that concludes on August 22. For incoming middle schoolers, the retreat is not an overnight and will take place on Aug. 21 only. The retreat is on the TA campus. Look for more details about the retreats and sign-up paperwork in an upcoming mailing.

Soccer and cross country practices (high school only) begin Thursday, Aug. 15. High school athletes participating in fall sports must have a current physical on file prior to Aug. 15. Participation in preseason practices is necessary to be considered for varsity teams.

Here is a list of key dates for the upcoming school year. Look for a more detailed 2019-2020 calendar in the August mailing.

STAYING CONNECTED!

We strive to communicate regularly with families, as we know that a strong parent-school partnership helps all of us best meet the needs of our students. Please look out for print mailings as well as email communication from me and others on staff throughout the school year.

We also encourage families to become familiar with our website, especially the ‘TA Today‘ section, where you can access school news and information anytime you need it.

And we even have a TA app! Available on iOS and Android. For those of you on social media, please follow TA on Facebook!

We are available for in-person support should you have any questions. The school office is generally open in July and August from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. We recommend calling ahead to confirm that the office is open and staffed on a given day. The main phone line is (802) 785-4805.

I, too, will be new to TA this year. I’m looking forward to meeting you and becoming part of this amazing school community together!

Please feel free to reach out at any point this summer or during the school year: [email protected], 802-785-4805, ext. 211.

Sincerely,

Carrie Brennan, Head of School
Thetford Academy
