Boys Soccer Concludes with 3-2 Playoff Loss to Leland & Gray

The 13th-seed varsity boys scored the first and last goal in their playoff game against 4th-seed Leland & Gray, but the Rebels scored the intervening three, as Leland & Gray edged the Panthers 3-2 yesterday.

Nine minutes into the game, Ethan Steingas put a Tate Linehan pass into the net, and the Panthers took a 1-0 lead.  The lead didn’t last long; within a minute, the Rebels tied the game, after which they added two more goals within the next 17  minutes; the score at the half was 3-1 Leland & Gray.

William Bugg scored a penalty kick in the 67th minute, setting up the Panthers for the possibility of tying the game, but despite several scoring opportunities, TA couldn’t connect.

Goalkeeper Jake Colby made 10 saves, including several improbable goal-saving miracles, keeping the Panthers in the game.

Coached by Andy Boyce and Ray Thorburn, the 2-12-1 Panthers included eight seniors:  Bugg, Colby, Steingas, Carter Blain, William Bosco, Seth Boyce, Aiden Cudhea, and Tate Linehan.
