Thetford Academy, a
private school with a public mission, is governed by a Board of
Trustees.
Role of the Board
The Board consists of no more than
twenty-four (24) members. At-large members are elected to four (4)
year terms, and Town Representatives, nominated by the designating
towns, are elected for one (1) year terms. Designating towns send
one member per town as a Town Representative. The Board of Trustees
meets at least four (4) times a year. |
Responsibilities of Individual Trustees
Trustees are expected to:
- Have a strong interest in the welfare of Thetford Academy and become
informed about the Academy's mission, policies, organizational structure,
services, and finances.
- Support the mission and policies of Thetford Academy in interactions
with the public and the members, and contribute to the best of their
abilities financially and through their expertise, time, and services.
- Attend Board meetings, of which there are at least four (4) per year.
- Serve on at least one (1) committee of the Board and develop in-depth
knowledge of the areas of responsibility of each committee on which
he/she serves.
Note: Current committees include: Buildings and Grounds, Budget
& Finance, Long Range Planning, Nominating, Personnel, Administrative
Advisory, and Development.

Head of School Martha
Rich

The administration
of the school is organized as a team with three full-time members:
the Head of School, the Dean of Students-Athletic Director, and
the Director of Operations (see Directory).
This team has primary responsibility for leadership and management
of daily operations, planning, and decision-making, with the Head
serving as liaison to the Trustees in their oversight and policy-making
roles. |
In addition, there are administrative
appointments for the Business Manager; Director of Operations, who oversees
the buildings and grounds maintenance and custodial staff; and the Director
of Development. All report to the Head of School.
The administrative support staff includes
two full-time secretaries and one bookkeeper at four-fifths time. The
Head is the chief administrative officer, responsible to the Board of
Trustees; all other administrtive team members and support staff, like
all other school employees, are accountable to the Head.
