Thetford Academy is committed to supporting our students’ overall health, well-being, and academic success so that they can achieve their highest potential. The middle school and high school years are times of rapid growth and transition, both physically and mentally. With this in mind, the school nurse serves as an important resource for students and their families.
The promotion of wellness and the prevention of illness in students and the entire school community is a key focus. The school nurse is available Monday though Thursday to support students and provide care for illness and injury with the goal of keeping students in the classroom. In addition, the Health Office tracks immunization compliance, stays abreast of illness and disease trends in the school and community, and carries out health screenings.
The Health Office uses the “Standards of Practice: School Health Services Manual” from the Vermont Departments of Health and Education as a guideline for best practices in school nursing.
The Health Office collects and submits the school’s immunization rates to the Vermont Department of Health by January 1 of each year. The Department of Health compiles the rates for each school along with a state-wide comparison. TA has an overall 96.5% immunization rate with higher rates for individual vaccines. You can see the report here.
