William Bugg

Head of School

Head of School Bill Bugg joined TA in 2012, relocating from Ohio, where he served as Assistant Head of School at Western Reserve Academy from 2008 to 2012. Bill brings extensive experience in independent school leadership and has taught Latin, English, history, and journalism. Early in his career, Bill worked as Director of Communications at Darlington School in Rome, GA. He holds a BA in classical studies from Davidson College in North Carolina, and a master’s in Latin from the University of Georgia.

Bill appreciates TA for its stunning setting on top of Thetford Hill, but says it’s the people at TA that truly inspire him. “The staff at TA is full of genuine, passionate, knowledgeable people who care deeply for students of all backgrounds and abilities. The students are extraordinarily kind to each other.”

Mr. Bugg lives on campus in Slafter Hall with his wife, Sally, sons, William, James, and Thomas, Trudy the dog, and Sunny the cat. He enjoys hiking, traveling, current events, reading history, biography, and science, and renovating and restoring historic homes.

“Consider that the mind is capable of an endless growth.”—Asa Burton, one of the founders, urging citizens of Thetford to establish TA in 1819
