Middle School Design Tech

Arts | Design Technology
Grade: 7-8

This course introduces students to basic woodworking techniques, wire jewelry making, and wood turning. Emphasis will be on proper use of hand tools, principles of design, appreciation for fine craftsmanship, and shop safety. Students learn to use Google SketchUp as a three-dimensional design software. The course also considers the appropriate use of technology in developing countries, and students build a Changu Changu Moto stove to cook a traditional Malawian meal. Student projects are often displayed at the end of the term.
