We Congratulate Our Students!
Thetford Academy Student of the Month

Student of the Month - November 2011 - Eliza Hoffman
In physics lab, in long theater rehearsals, in chorus, on field trips—even at 4 a.m.—and at community events, a resounding verdict abounds regarding junior Eliza Hoffman: determined and enthusiastic. But it doesn’t stop there. Listen for the adjectives.
Eliza is an outstanding actor who takes risks and challenges herself. For her role in last year’s one-act play, she even learned the violin! She brings commitment, energy, and consistent good humor to each rehearsal.
Eliza’s soccer and track teammates, as well as coaches, see these qualities, and if you look on the TA record board, you’ll see Eliza’s mark on history. She and three of her teammates broke the 4 x 800m relay record which had stood for nine long years.
Eliza is a superb singer who strives to do her best and supports her classmates, too. On the musical set, she sees something that needs to be done and asks: "May I help you with that?” “Do you want me to do that?”
Eliza is reliable, intelligent, and involved. Volunteers for Thetford’s Energy Group, HEAT, for which Eliza recently presented information, cooked, and canvassed know that. She’s a planner, which is what community groups need. It’s also what is needed when looking ahead to a semester in Colorado at the High Mountain Institute. Eliza knew she would not be here this spring, so she took Pre-Calculus last year and is taking Calculus now—where she is doing quite well. She is insightful and wants to learn. She works for understanding, not the grade.
A strong individual, intelligent, and clever, Eliza makes her mark even in an elite physics class, where she is confident enough to solve a challenging problem, program a robot, or puzzle out a question in the lab. She is totally competent.
Now, what was the impressive act did she did at 4 a.m. on a field trip? While in Perú, she was one of ones to rise early and climb two hours up Little Pichu in the dense fog. Simply put, she is a trooper. Congratulations to Eliza Hoffman, Thetford Academy’s Student of the Month for November 2011.

Student of the Month - October 2011 - Lizzy Marks
The first member of the class of 2013 to be honored as Student of the Month is a person who inspires the admiration of faculty and students alike with her unfailing good humor and kindness, her exceptional efforts in the
classroom and in the larger community, her quick mind and her ready smile. Whether she's in science, history, French or math, this junior demonstrates a deep appreciation for the connection between subjects, and more importantly, for the connections between school work and the larger world. She is an important contributor to the TA cross country team, a mainstay of our local community theater and has recently become the first student to serve on the Parish Players Board. In addition to her efforts as a runner, stage manager, actor and scholar, she is an activist, helping to lead efforts to make homes in our community more energy efficient. In a class full of remarkably talented individuals, Lizzy Marks is a natural leader.
We are pleased to honor Lizzy Marks as our October 2011 Student of the Month.

Student of the Month - September 2011 - Josh Page
Whenever the words “goes above and beyond” were invented, they
certainly had this student in mind. He not only does everything, he does it all with attention paid to every last detail. He is a member of the
Riverbend National Technical Honor Society who plans to study culinary arts at the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier next year. He is a member and treasurer for the Haverhill Corner Clovers 4H Club and does volunteer work at his church. He takes on a leadership role with the Grafton County 4H Teen Club, all while working part time at 603 Burgers in Bath, NH.
In school, he has taken on the often thankless role of working on the
Yearbook and works his hardest to see to it that things are done and
deadlines are met. As a master tech wizard, he is the first person many of us call on when anything “technical” doesn’t work – and in most cases, can fix the problem. No matter what obstacles are put in his path, he manages to find a way to overcome them and still succeed. He has a great attitude and outlook on life and has a kind word and a ready smile for anyone who needs it.
As the Buddhists say, “Any path you choose, really walk it.”- That is our Student of the Month, Josh Page.
