New Fire Pit

By Hugh O’Donnell

For my capstone project, I decided to build off of my idea from the last capstone project I did in the fall and refurbish the fire pit in the outdoor classroom. The last fire pit I created was made of stacked stones, and I decided to create something a little more modern this time. The new firepit is made out of firebrick and mortar. It is five layers thick, and is in the shape of layered decagons. Originally, the mortar did not mix correctly, but after it dried, it held together well. After finishing the firepit, I decided that the project wasn’t finished, so I decided to build benches as well. This firepit will be used for years to come as a place for classes to cook on and to meet around.
